Most wedding timelines are written for somewhere else. They tell you to book a florist nine months out and say nothing about rainy season, Sinulog, or how long church paperwork actually takes here. This one is for Cebu.

Peak Season in Cebu
December through May is peak. Dry weather, holidays, and everyone else’s wedding. Venues and the top photographers book out furthest in this window, and Saturday dates carry a premium almost everywhere.
June to November is the rainy season. Not a reason to avoid getting married, plenty of beautiful weddings happen in these months and you will have more supplier availability and better rates. But if you want a beach or garden wedding, you are taking a real risk. Either build in a covered backup or accept that the plan may change on the day.
Indoor and hotel weddings are far less affected. If you are set on an outdoor ceremony, aim for the dry months.
Sinulog
On the third Sunday of January, Cebu City effectively stops. Road closures, enormous crowds, hotels full, and guests who cannot get anywhere on time.
If your wedding is in Cebu City that weekend, reconsider. If it is in Mactan, you are generally fine. The festival is a city event and Mactan carries on more or less normally. Just be aware that hotel rates across the whole island climb during Sinulog week.
Cebu Traffic
This is the thing couples underestimate most, and it is not a supplier problem, it is a timeline problem.
Build real buffer between your ceremony and reception, particularly if you are moving guests from a city church out to Mactan. What looks like a thirty minute drive on a map is an hour or more on a Saturday afternoon.
Church Requirements
Start earlier than you think. Church paperwork is the single most common reason couples end up rushing.
You will generally need:
- A booking with the church itself, popular parishes go a year ahead for peak dates
- Baptismal and confirmation certificates, annotated for marriage purposes
- A canonical interview
- A pre-Cana or marriage preparation seminar
- Marriage banns, usually posted over three consecutive Sundays
- Your civil marriage licence
The civil licence has its own timeline. There is a posting period at the local civil registrar before it is released, and once issued it is valid only for a limited window. Apply too early and it expires, too late and it is not ready.
What to Book First, and Why
Date, church and venue go together. In Cebu these three constrain each other. A church slot without a venue nearby, or a venue an hour from your church in Saturday traffic, creates problems no supplier can fix later.
A planner belongs in this first group, not later. Their value is largest before anything is booked, when they can steer you away from combinations that will not work. Couples planning from Manila or overseas should treat this as essential.
Photographers and videographers are next. The names other suppliers recommend to each other are booked furthest out, often a year for peak dates.
Everything else has more slack than couples assume, with one exception. If your entourage is large, book your hair and makeup artist earlier. Artists have a limited number of hands on the day and big entourages get turned away.
A Realistic Warning
Almost nobody plans a wedding in the order a checklist suggests. You will book out of sequence, change your mind, and lose a supplier you wanted.
The parts that genuinely cannot be rushed are the church paperwork and the peak-season bookings. Protect those two and the rest can flex.
